Joshua Conkel was raised in the pine forests of rural
Washington State and studied theater at Cornish College of the Arts
in Seattle, where he wrote his earliest plays. After assistant directing
the first incarnation of The Light in the Piazza
at The Intiman Theater, Joshua moved to New York and became a member
of the downtown theater company, The
Management, where he is now Co-Artistic Director.
In 2008, along with his theater company, Joshua became
an Artist-in-Residence at Horse Trade Theatre Group, with whom he
will be producing many new works in the coming year. His most recent
play, The Chalk Boy, enjoyed productions in Washington
D.C., Los Angeles, and New York (co-produced by Horse Trade) this
year and received rave reviews.
His plays include Women in Pants, A Love Story
for People Who Hate Everything, Pretty as a Picture or the Story
of a Girl Who was Almost in a Warrant Video, Odd Days/Even Days,
and The Invisible Boy Says Goodbye.
