It's a brand new year, and Youngblood is depressed.
It's that time again, when all our hopes and dreams
of the old year are mothballed and we all resolve that somehow,
this time, things will be better. We're all going to slim down,
hook up, make it happen, pay no attention to that gnawing feeling
in the pit of our stomach.
It's time to watch some new plays and drink and eat
bacon.

Youngblood returns to the EST Main Stage with NEGLECT
and THICKER THAN WATER 2007:
NEGLECT

William Jackson Harper and Geany Masai (photo Carol
Rosegg)
First up is our full-length, Sharyn
Rothstein's NEGLECT,
a brand new drama of heartbreaking dimensions. During a heat wave,
in an inner-city Chicago neighborhood, an elderly woman opens her
home to a young man next door. Together they try to escape the heat
and their own loneliness, but an unexpected betrayal leaves each
irreperably changed. A heartbreaking new play from a rising young
writer, featuring two star-making performances from GEANY MASAI
and WILLIAM JACKSON HARPER.
Read nytheatre.com's rave review of Neglect here.
"Exceptional! Tightly constructed... a bleak landscape of raw
and volatile emotions. A beautiful example of how a production breathes
life into a play."

Youngblood's Sunday Brunch makes its triumphant return
with:
if you
go to the theatre and ask yourself:
WOULD THIS PLAY BE IMPROVED IF THE
ACTORS GOT NAKED?
if you
go to strip clubs and ponder:
COULD
THIS NUDITY BENEFIT FROM HIGHER STAKES, STRONGER OBJECTIVES, AND
A SIMPLE, CLEAR ONE-ACT STRUCTURE?
If you
see plays with live nudity every day but wonder somewhere deep down:
MIGHT THIS BE BETTER WITH PANCAKES?
...then you should prepare to stop your grinnin'
and by all means get ready to drop your linen...

"Youngblood opts into the
$ELLOUT FESTIVAL in a truly unique way: they auctioned off the opportunity
to have a one-act play written about the life of the winning bidder.
The finished product, THE TRUE LIFE STORY OF [YOUR NAME HERE]: TOM
RITCHFORD, is as entertaining and eclectic as its subject.
A hilariously surreal fantasia...
TRUE LIFE STORY respectfully handles the events of Ritchford's life
with total irreverence. The talented seven-person cast... all look
like they're having a blast. Their teamwork and camaraderie onstage
is terrific!"

Youngblood has sold their artistic vision, their playwriting,
their very SOULS - to the highest bidder. Starting in early April,
we ran an eBay auction. The winner of the auction, one Tom Ritchford,
has been interviewed by a crack team of Youngblood playwrights,
to have his TRUE LIFE STORY dramatized and performed with a professional
cast in the $ELLOUT FESTIVAL this June at the Brick Theater in Williamsburg,
Brooklyn.

A socially backward, chronically allergic young

A blossoming anorexic, a brainy bombshell and
